Sober Education

About 50% of our participants come to us with some college experience and integrating back to school becomes an important goal. It is our belief that participants must lay a solid foundation in recovery first, by building that network and moving through the 12-step process, prior to being successful with a sober college experience. However, with the proper support system in place, completing school in recovery is possible.

Many of our Peer Support Staff navigated continuing education in recovery, and can offer invaluable personal experience, like helping residents consider which school may be appropriate for them. The two immediate local opportunities are Richard Stockton University and Atlantic Cape Community College. Residents who plan to re-locate a bit more permanently to our community would have a short commute to schools in Philly and others headed north on the Garden State Parkway. Plenty of colleges & universities offer fully-virtual degree programs as well.

We are fortunate to have a thriving alumni network along the Jersey Shore and Greater Philadelphia area. Not only do we have Support Staff to assist residents as they navigate their future, but we also have a community full of men to share their experience.

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education advocates for Collegiate Recovery Communities and provides a wealth of information for folks considering continuing their education in recovery.
